Roseanne says she was Ambien tweeting. As a morning radio host and longtime insomniac with a legit prescription, I can not tell you if that’s true. But I can say it’s possible.

Yet it doesn’t matter.

Like it or not, we live in a new era of justice. Instant trial by social media. No need to interview potential jurors. Trial by digital-mob wielding index fingers in a virtual firing squad.

It’s a surprise to no one that she’s not a nice person. So she wasn’t fired for her character.

It’s hard to find any current news on Zolpidem. There were negative stories a few years back about people sleepwalking, talking, and even driving with no memory.

Don’t expect a search to reveal any the number of people getting prescriptions. Something vague written in 2011 about how 70 million suffer from sleep disorders. And a useless stat from 2008 claiming a little more than half a million Ambien scripts penned in a year.

Do you ever read the drug cautions that come with each bag you pick up at the pharmacy?

You’re not supposed to take it and start tweeting. It’s best to be in bed and closing your eyes. Otherwise, you may enter a kind of zombie half awake half dreaming state.

And you can say some really stupid stuff. Or so I’ve heard the next morning.

After initially resenting the hype, I was starting to like the Roseanne show. The episode dealing with her knee pain and growing dependence on opioids was thoughtful and clever.

So here’s the question. What good does firing her do? Like it or not, a diverse show representing working class struggles is gone. Was it becoming an important voice for our time? An ALL IN THE FAMILY for the populist movement?

We’ll never get to find out.

Condemn the tweet. Discipline. Have her apologize and do the mea culpa rounds on the interview circuit.

By firing her she’s a martyr for those who think like her. It’s them against the politically correct elitists. Trump’s tweet said as much.

How ironic that the last time she was this controversial was when she grabbed her own P**** after butchering The National Anthem?

That was a different time. 28 years ago. The Washington Post has called it the most viral moment of the pre-viral age.

What happened to her show then?

It soared.
