Lisa and I are downsizing. Why is it so hard?

It feels like we have been squirrels storing nuts for years. And I can remember wanting each and every delicious acorn.

Letting go of stored treasure means either “I’m done with this and it’s just taking up space” or worse yet: “I bought it, but I never got around to using it”.

If I add up the books I haven’t read, the software I didn’t use, the devices collecting dust, and the things I have duplicates of, it gets daunting pretty quickly.

How many items of clothing, kitchenware, furniture, tools, and various gizmos and gadgets do I regularly use? How many just sit there, in case I might need them someday?

Today is Black Friday. As wonderful as it feels to buy and give and get, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we also set aside a day to lighten our load? I know, not going to happen.

Maybe the solution is to be like the squirrel, in reverse. Chip away at it, a little but at a time. You’ve heard this before: Sell, Donate, Trash. 3 piles.

Don’t do it today, but keep it in mind as you load the car with new shits.
